RESULTS

RESHAPING THE MASTER'S DEGREE

RECALCULATING FACTOR OF CEILS DEGREE

During the term, we have pursued the project of reshaping and renovating the LMG in Law. The three partitions make it possible to increase the programmed number while maintaining the quality of teaching and interaction with faculty. The replacement of Political Economy with Introduction to Economics and Economic Law courses has made the curriculum more relevant to the legal subject, without frustrating the analysis of the economic aspects of law (bye bye memory charts!).

Thanks to our representative at CEILS, we were able to obtain a more favorable graduation factor for students by aligning final test grades with those of other three-year courses.

ONLINE EXAM GUIDELINES

We succeeded in getting the Faculty Council to approve guidelines for conducting online exams, which included division by rounds, reasonable timelines, and reduced number of room participants.

CLASS AND IN-PERSON EXAMS FOR ALL AS EARLY AS SEPTEMBER 2021

Through our representatives in the Student Council, we succeeded in getting UniTrento to arrange for a return to in-person classes for all students before many other Italian universities. However, we were equally committed to ensuring that students affected by frail conditions and unable to attend could have full rights to online exams and adequate teaching support measures.

DIALOGUE FOR A MULTI-PATHWAY MASTERFUL CEILS STARTED

Together with the Faculty Council, we have begun work on a project that will bring the CEILS course to have a natural continuation in the Faculty of Trent, with a master's degree program that will run in three pathways of student choice.

A MORE LIVABLE YARD

AMOUNT FOR ERASMUS SCHOLARSHIPS INCREASED

We succeeded in increasing the amount allocated for mobility abroad grants, increasing their number and value.

We finally managed to get new benches put in the courtyard, a previously empty and unused space that can now be used for dining, chatting, spritzing! New flower beds and recycling bins are also on the way.

NEW CLASSROOMS AT CTE

PLATFORM FOR BOOK AND NOTE EXCHANGE

Among Giuri's big problems has always been the lack of enough classrooms for teaching. We moved together with the dean to get more, and we were granted! The infamous CTE 1 will soon be accompanied by two new classrooms, CTE2 and CTE3, equipped with mobile desks and chairs, which will also allow for non-classroom teaching. Don't worry, we have already requested that all three be properly wired.

We have begun to create a collection of notes, outlines, past exam papers, for all course years, for both Law and CEILS, free for all to browse and download. It will take some time to complete and will need to be constantly updated, but we believe it is a step in the right direction to help us and leave something as a legacy for the jurists of tomorrow.

WELCOME WEEKS AND FIRST FACULTY APERITIF

This year we have managed to take the Freshman Saving Project to a new level, organizing, along with the classic meetings where we give you advice about the University and exams, many other activities as well. Among them, Law & Order a spritz, the first Faculty aperitif in more than two years.

GOALS

PROMOTE OPEN ACCESS TO REDUCE THE COST OF TEACHING MATERIALS

1

Open access is a way of publishing material produced by research. We would like to see more courses adopt books of this type, not making it mandatory to purchase a paper medium, which is the main method of studying. One could start, for example, with books and readings recommended by faculty members. In this way, the cost of teaching materials borne by students could be reduced.

SPENDING CAP AND CONVENTIONS FOR THE PURCHASE OF TEXTBOOKS.

2

The cost of books for law school can be prohibitive for some students. We propose the introduction of a spending cap.
We also want to make arrangements with major bookstores for discounts on textbooks and other books.

3

SOFT-SKILL,
LEGAL SKILLS!

We want more value to be placed on learning soft skills and to improve the Job Guidance educational offerings. We are asking faculty to enhance the legal writing course, and to introduce new courses aimed at learning the skills of the legal professional, so as to give an edge to students approaching the world of work. We ask for more lectures with guest professors and experts in the field, to get viewpoints "from outside of the textbook."

INTEGRATED AND DIGITAL EDUCATION

4

Courses on Moodle should not be left to gather dust! We want to ask faculty to investigate methods to better apply integrated teaching, to encourage student participation, and for greater usability of materials and recommended readings, even by non-attendees.
We want to reduce the dispersion of information among the University's various sites. Because come on, who uses MyUnitn anymore?

MORE COURSES IN ENGLISH

5

MORE FLEXIBLE AND ORGANIZED STUDY PLAN

We want to make it possible to choose which monograph courses to take, along the lines of the option between Methodology and Philosophy of Law advanced course. Increase the variety of monographic courses (e.g., for Advanced Criminal) and ask that the possibility of exams on loan from other faculties be integrated on Esse3. We want to ensure that each curriculum can be stitched to perfection based on the student's interests and aspirations.

6

Why only History and Comparative Legal Systems? We want more courses with options, complementary courses, and English-language workshops, so that our education can really prepare us to study and work in an international environment. We want to increase the number of electives for existing courses.

COURSES FOR WORKING STUDENTS

EXAMS

7

8

We would like to make the December and May date exams available even for exams not in the same semester, at least if they are propaedeutic.

Vogliamo chiedere alla Facoltà di ampliare l’offerta di corsi a supporto degli studenti che lavorano, al di fuori degli orari di lezione e quantomeno per le materie principali e più ostiche (diritto privato, commerciale, amministrativo, penale,  procedure);
Vogliamo che venga implementata la carriera part time in Giurisprudenza.

10

9

IMPLEMENT POST-EXAM QUESTIONNAIRES

The compulsory questionnaires currently administered to students only allow them to evaluate the teaching activity during the semester and not the final exam. Introducing post-exam questionnaires would make the mediation work with professors much easier. They would provide us with objective and anonymous data on the conduct and outcome of tests, making it easier to identify critical issues and providing us with negotiating leverage in our dialogue with professors.

IMPROVE THE ORGANIZATION OF EXAMINATIONS

We want the Faculty Council to approve regulations on the conduct and organization of examinations, including: staggering in time slots, advance notice of duration, following the order of reservation, expeditious verbalization, acceptance of oral grades like the written ones (5 days to think about it).

PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

11

The path to law school can prove torturous for many students. Data in relation to the University's population tell us that jurists are the component that makes most use of the psychological support offered by UniTN, but it does not fully meet demand. We want the university to invest in hiring more specialists and allow greater accessibility to the desk.

WATCH OUT FOR THE SPACES!

13

We propose to have wet waste bins, ashtrays also placed at the entrance of Via Rosmini, still and sparkling water dispensers in the break rooms to reduce plastic consumption. We want a focal point to be set up to collect reports about breakdowns and other maintenance in Faculty.

CINEFORUM IN THE COURTYARD

12

CONSISTENT CLASSROOM SHIFTS

Between classes it happens to move between classrooms, often these are also located outside the faculty such as the classrooms at CTE. we need to improve the logistics and consistency of class schedules, avoiding large shifts.

CTE ROOM 1

14

It is necessary to make the CTE 1 classroom a suitable place for educational activities by placing: electrical outlets, tables, chairs and acoustically insulating the classroom.

15

We want to make the most of the courtyard space, and bring in something new that is not there in other departments. Our idea is to equip it to function as an outdoor lecture hall, which in the warmer months can be used as a space for innovative teaching and, why not, also for a few evenings in the company of a good movie.

CONVENTION WITH THE COURT OF TRENTO

LET'S BRING BACK JUS DAY

16

At one time, the Law School used to organize Jus Day, consisting of one or more days of presentation of various local legal entities that offered internship and apprenticeship opportunities to students. After the covid, unfortunately, nothing more was done. We propose that the Law School take over the management of the project again, to improve outbound orientation.

17

The Trento District Court is not among the institutions that can offer internship positions from Trent University. We would like to propose that the Dean's delegate begin a dialogue to enter into an agreement with the Tribunal to increase the supply of internships related to the judicial sector.

ERASMUS

19

Bringing students together through the creation of Telegram channels to connect those who have already experienced a particular half with people interested in that destination
Remodeling the FAQs related to the Erasmus application portion.

VALORIZATION OF ECIU

18

ECIU (The European Consortium of Innovative Universities) is a consortium composed of universities from all over the world, in which Trento is the only Italian! Its goal is to promote interdisciplinarity and innovative teaching through collaboration and knowledge exchange among students, researchers and professors to solve real-life challenges. We want to enhance the initiatives proposed to students, which are also often lost due to inefficient communication, to offer them new learning opportunities!

CEILS

THEN WHAT DO I DO?

INTEGRATE GUEST PROFESSORS' LECTURES MORE FULLY INTO TEACHING

The three-year course absolutely needs connections for the master's degree.
We want to ask for expanded and diversified agreements with other universities to give more possibilities for completion of the CEILS course abroad.
We will also continue to work on a proposal for a CEILS master's degree course organized by the University of Trento itself.

Guest professors change frequently, and lectures are usually an end in themselves. We believe that their lectures should be included as part of an organic program that makes guests an integral part of education.

THIRD EXAM SESSION

A FAIR GAP BETWEEN EXAM DATES

We will fight so that CEILS can also have three regular appeals per semester, just as is the case for Law School.

POSSIBILITY OF GIVING MORE EXAMS FROM THE TEACHING OFFERINGS OF THE LAW SCHOOL COURSE

Many interesting exams in the Law course offerings are not accessible to CEILS students because they are taught in Italian. By increasing the range of courses offered in English, we expect to be able to expand the range of elective exams for the three-year course as well.

Often exam dates are very close together, and with only two appeals there is a risk of having two exams on the same day, because some professors take a long time to question and postpone until the next day;
We think it is necessary to call for better planning of oral and blended exams, taking into account the possibility of sudden changes.

INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY

More Erasmus destinations and Bilateral Agreements for the bachelor's degree;

CEILS REPRESENTATION

CEILS is underrepresented. Our proposal is to include a permanent seat for CEILS in the Law School's parity, the body that deals with educational issues and from which CEILS would benefit greatly.

SALVAMATRICOLE FOR CEILS TOO!

We want to bring a full-fledged freshman saver to CEILS as well, organizing Q&A sessions and events to introduce freshmen to the course. We want to pay special attention to non-Italian students, who need orientation more than others.

INTERNSHIPS

Better management of internships, with more opportunities to decrease the supply gap with law school colleagues
